Q: Monica, tell us about your cannabis consumption ritual if you have one?

Depending on the scenario, it's common for me to consume CBD at night. If I am having physical pain, I usually smoke CBD while taking a bubbly bath. If I am stressed or overworking myself, I turn on my galaxy lights, put on music, and read comics. Lastly, every other month I try to go out of town and stay at Airbnb in an area where you can see the stars; I usually eat a very delicious dinner while staring at stars and music in the background.

Q: How does music go with your consumption ritual?

Highly important, as you can see in my previous answer it's usually playing in the background at any moment time. It's a nice way to escape from the day's stressors or a way to get my creative flow going. Working with clients to start on new brands or while working on Metziverse (personal project) there are times where I get a creative block so I tend to watch music videos to get inspired.

Q: You are a highly creative and talented artist, tell us a little bit about what you do, if you went to school for anything, etc?

I graduated from Otis College of Art Design for Fashion Design. I had a very different expectation of what the industry looked like so I jumped around into different careers after leaving the fashion industry from Graphic Design, Toy Design, which led me to fall back in love with drawing. Last year, I took the leap and decided to be full-time freelance as an Illustrator and Concept Designer. I work currently along with clients who are seeking to start new toy brands, helping out with their vision by drawing products. Along with client work, I'm currently starting to concept / write the story for Metziverse (name work in progress). A passion project I'm hoping to launch character designs next year.

Q: What influences your art personal and work?

For personal projects like Metziverse, it's been inspired by a mix of things like astrology, Mexican Mythology, and personal experience. For work, depending on the client's direction; I'm usually heavily influenced by Kpop. Its fun, playful, and has many concepts that work well in designing toys for kids in terms of fashion.

Q: What things should we be on the lookout for from you?

All future announcements will be on my ig @monilizadraws for sneak peeks on Metziverse, future events, and designs I've worked on with clients. Currently launched private commissions slot opening on my website (www.monliza.com/private-commission), for those seeking to dollifie themselves or a cute fanart. Aiming to launch Patreon at the end of the year for behind the scenes in my drawing process and ways to give advice for those seeking to potentially branch in the illustrating industry. Next year, I will for the first time aim to participate in art conventions with offerings of zines, posters, and other cute things 😊
